The mark consists of three unsheathed swords laying parallel to each other with their tips pointing up. The swords lay on top of an oval wreath of laurel bundles. A continuous scroll winds around the swords. At the top of the scroll is printed the word "JOINT" and the words "CHIEFS OF STAFF" are printed at the bottom. Two crossed unsheathed swords lay on top of the continuous scroll. The point and grips of all the swords lay on the wreath. Centered on top of the five swords is a medieval Heater style shield. The top portion of the shield is a trapezoid with its tops and bottom being parallel and the right and left side bending to fit the curve of the shield. Underneath that are 13 vertical alternating light and dark parallel stripes of equal width.
