Knockout Searches vs. Clearance Reports

Knockout Search

Starter: 5/mo | Professional: 25/seat/mo | Max: unlimited/seat

Screens all 14M USPTO filings for potential conflicts the way an examiner would — phonetic, visual, component and coordinated-class strategies chosen for your mark. Fast answer: is this name likely clear?

Clearance Report

Starter: 1/account/mo, then $79 | Professional: 2/account/mo, then $79 | Max: 5/seat/mo, then $79 each

Everything in Knockout, plus domain availability, web presence search for common law rights, and DuPont-style likelihood of confusion analysis for the highest-risk conflicts.

All under one roof
I love that GleanMark is basically the USPTO website on steroids. But in addition to having robust search functions and very clean trademark pages, it has clearance, docketing, ROA drafting, watch services, and automated client reporting all under one roof. I save hours each month, my practice saves money, and my clients are better served as a result.

What attorneys and founders are saying

Real feedback from trademark professionals using GleanMark

Sign off with confidence

I use GleanMark across clearance, office action responses, and general research. What sets it apart from the other trademark tools is the depth of the record underneath GleanMark. On clearance, it surfaces the conflicting marks thoroughly and gives me enough on each one to make my own call and sign off with confidence, instead of relying on a black-box ranking. On office action responses, it brings not just the arguments but the actual evidence behind them. And for day-to-day research, I can get a straight answer on any owner, any proceeding, or any single mark in seconds.

Built for volume

We handle trademarks for several thousand clients, and at that volume staying organized used to be most of the job. GleanMark keeps the whole portfolio straight and tells our clients automatically when something moves on their file. Clearance and day-to-day research now live in one place instead of across multiple vendors, and GleanMark's prosecution summaries and overall visual experience are exceptionally useful. We run a more organized practice, our clients hear from us before they think to ask, and everything is included in one monthly fee.

One place, not five tabs

Anyone who does trademark work has uspto.gov open in a tab all day — jumping between TSDR and the search page, never quite seeing the whole picture in one place. GleanMark puts it all in one place, organized the way you'd actually work a file. That was clear from the first session.

Game-changer

Every time I'm vetting a new brand name, I used to spend hours Googling, checking domain availability, and then paying hundreds of dollars for a trademark clearance report that took days to come back. GleanMark lets me search 14 million trademarks, check domains, and get a real answer in seconds—for free. It's a game-changer for anyone launching a new brand or startup.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

They're free, but your time isn't. Every minute clicking through PDFs on TSDR is a minute you could be advising clients. At even $300/hour, spending 5 extra hours per week on TSDR research costs $6,000/month in lost billable time. GleanMark starts at $99/month. The math works on day one.

Having direct access to AI-powered search and analysis means you can do initial screening in-house and engage outside counsel only when you've identified real issues. That reduces outside counsel spend while giving your team faster, more informed decision-making.

GleanMark's OA response drafts are attorney scaffolds, not final filings. Everything requiring your legal judgment is collected into a before-you-file checklist beside the draft. The AI handles research — finding cited marks, third-party registrations, winning argument patterns — and structures the response. You handle the strategy. Think of it as a first-year associate who already did all the research.

GleanMark includes trademark docketing — deadline tracking from Professional, and automated client updates on Max — so a trademark-focused practice can run end-to-end in one tool. And it adds what dedicated docketing systems can't: AI-powered search, similarity analysis, prosecution research, and competitive monitoring. Already run a firm-wide docketing system across all your IP? GleanMark layers on that intelligence.

Start a free trial for 7 days of full Professional access — no credit card required, including 3 search lenses, watch alerts, similarity scoring, and Markus AI. After 7 days your account reverts to Free unless you choose a paid plan. Adding a card subscribes you right away — you're billed a prorated amount for the rest of the current month, then the full price on the 1st (it doesn't extend the trial). Prefer no clock? The Free plan (3 marks) has no time limit.

At $300/hour, 5 hours per week on manual USPTO research costs $6,000/month. GleanMark starts at $99/month — break-even is about 20 minutes saved per month. USPTO database lookups are unlimited on every plan; knockout screening and full clearance reports scale with your tier — a fraction of what traditional clearance vendors charge.

We take credit and debit cards, billed monthly. We can't accept ACH, checks or purchase orders today, and we don't issue manual invoices — so if your accounts team requires a PO or a bank transfer, we're not a fit yet. Every plan is month-to-month; there's no annual contract and no annual billing option right now. Your receipts and full billing history live in the billing portal, which you open from Settings → Billing.

Yes. Cancel yourself from Settings → Billing — no email, no retention call. There's no minimum term and no cancellation fee. Cancelling takes effect that day: the account drops to the Free plan, and the unused part of the month you've already paid for is prorated back as account credit.

Yes. A multi-seat plan is one subscription with a seat count on it, so the firm is charged once a month on one card rather than per person, and adding or removing a seat just changes that one subscription. Each person needs their own login — Free and Starter are single-user plans, so shared logins mean Professional or above.

It depends which one. Two things you can simply keep buying: clearance reports (each plan includes some — Starter 1 a month, Professional 2, Max 5 per seat — and further reports are $79 each) and office action drafts (Starter includes 1 a month, Professional 3 per person, $49 each after that, and Max has no cap). Knockout searches and Markus messages are hard monthly allowances per person with no top-up — Starter includes 5 searches, Professional 25, Max unlimited — so you upgrade rather than buy more. Monitored marks are a plan ceiling rather than a meter: Free covers 3 and Starter 15, while Professional and Max are unlimited.

An office action response is one generated draft, counted against the person who generated it for that billing period. A Markus message is one question you send the assistant; Starter includes 5 a month, and Professional and Max include Markus without a monthly message cap. There's no setup fee and no charge to import your portfolio — loading your marks is part of onboarding.
