Comparing Trademarks Side by Side

GleanMark has two trademark comparison routes:

• /compare
• /trademark-comparison

/compare puts up to 5 trademarks side by side in a single matrix, covering owner, status, key dates, Nice classes, goods & services, filing basis, and TTAB activity. It can be viewed without signing in.

How It Works

1. Open /compare to access the comparison page — this route works whether or not you're signed in
2. Open /trademark-comparison to access the trademark comparison page — this route requires signing in

Building a comparison on /compare:

1. Select trademarks from search results to compare them side by side. You can compare up to 5 trademarks at a time; adding a sixth shows "You can compare up to 5 trademarks at a time."
2. Open /compare. The header reads "Trademark Comparison" with a badge showing how many trademarks are being compared, and each trademark becomes a column in the matrix. Current data for every mark is fetched when the page loads.
3. If nothing is selected, the page shows "No Trademarks to Compare" with a "Go to Search" button.
4. Remove a mark with the X button in its column header ("Remove from comparison"). Your selection is saved in your browser, so it's still there the next time you open the page.
5. If you're signed in and comparing fewer than 5 marks, a link such as "+ Add up to 3 more" (the number reflects the remaining slots) appears next to the count badge and takes you back to search.

What's Compared

Each column is headed by the mark's image (or "(No Image)" when the mark has none), its serial number ("Ser #:"), and — once registered — its registration number ("Reg #:"), with copy buttons for both numbers. The serial number links to the mark's detail page.

The attribute rows:

• Mark Text
• Owner — links to the owner's page (opens in a new tab), with a hover preview
• Status
• Mark Category
• Mark Type
• Filing Date, First Use Date, and Registration Date — the earliest value in each row is flagged with an award icon ("Earliest filing date", "Earliest first use date", "Earliest registration date")
• Nice Classes — one badge per class; hover a badge for the class number, whether it covers goods or services, and the class description
• Goods & Services Details — one row for every class that appears anywhere in the comparison. Each row is labeled with the class and its description, and shows each mark's wording for that class ("--" if the mark doesn't claim it)
• Current Basis — the mark's current filing basis; when the basis has changed, the original is shown as "Originally: ..."
• TTAB Activity — "None" when the mark has no proceedings, otherwise the number of pending or past proceedings; entries link to the TTAB section of the mark's detail page
• Actions — "View Full Details" opens the mark's detail page in a new tab

Below the matrix, a USPTO Notation note explains markings in the goods & services text: brackets [...] indicate deleted goods/services, and double parentheses ((...)) identify goods/services not claimed in a Section 15 affidavit of incontestability.

Sharing Comparisons

/compare is a hybrid route. /trademark-comparison is a protected route.

/compare accepts a serials URL parameter containing a comma-separated list of serial numbers, for example:

/compare?serials=87000001,87000002

A link built this way compares those marks instead of your saved selection, and it works for anyone — signed-out visitors see the full matrix, though not the add-more link, along with a sign-up prompt. Removing a mark from a shared comparison updates the URL to match, so you can trim a comparison and share the new link; remove every mark and you're taken back to search. Your saved selection is untouched by shared-URL comparisons.

Export

Click the download icon in the comparison header — labeled "Download comparison report" — to open the export dialog. Select any combination of the three formats: a basic CSV, a comprehensive CSV, and a comprehensive RTF report. Your format selections are remembered for future exports.

Tips

• Hover a class badge in the Nice Classes row to see the full class description.
• The award icon in each date row marks the earliest date across the compared marks — a quick way to see who filed, registered, or claimed first use first.
• Use the copy buttons beside "Ser #:" and "Reg #:" to copy numbers without selecting text.
• The page is print-ready: buttons and links are hidden and the table is kept from breaking across pages when you print.
• If the comparison fails to load, use the Retry button to try again.
