Comparing Trademarks Side by Side

GleanMark's comparison tool lets you view up to 5 trademarks side by side, comparing every detail from owner and status to goods and services. When comparing exactly 2 marks, you can run a Confusion Analysis directly.

How It Works

  1. Select marks from search results — check the boxes next to trademarks you want to compare (up to 5)
  2. Click Compare — or go directly to /compare?serials=12345678,87654321
  3. Review the comparison — marks appear in columns with rows for each attribute
  4. Run Confusion Analysis — when exactly 2 marks are selected, a button appears to run a full DuPont factor analysis

What's Compared

The comparison table shows these attributes side by side:

AttributeWhat It Shows
OwnerEntity that owns the mark
StatusRegistration status (color-coded badges)
Mark CategoryTrademark, Service Mark, Collective, or Certification
Mark TypeWord, Stylized, Design, Sound, or Composite
Filing DateApplication date (earliest is highlighted)
First Use DateDate of first commercial use
Registration DateWhen registered (earliest highlighted)
Nice ClassesInternational classes with description tooltips
Goods & ServicesFull description of covered goods/services
Current BasisFiling basis (use-in-commerce, intent-to-use, etc.) — shows both current and original when they differ
TTAB ActivityAny opposition or cancellation proceedings

Earliest dates are highlighted across columns so you can quickly see which mark has seniority.

Sharing Comparisons

The comparison URL contains all selected serial numbers: /compare?serials=90244982,88126475. Copy and share the URL to send the comparison to a colleague — no login required to view.

Export

Use the export button to download the comparison data for offline review or client deliverables.

Tips

  • Compare potential conflicts — after a knockout search, compare your proposed mark with the highest-risk results
  • Check filing basis differences — a use-based application has different legal standing than an intent-to-use application
  • Look at class overlap — if two marks are in the same Nice class, the conflict risk is higher
  • Use the 2-mark Confusion Analysis — for the most thorough analysis, select exactly 2 marks and run the DuPont analysis
