From query to insight in four steps

What takes an hour of manual searching takes seconds here.

1

Choose your search mode

Search by trademark, owner, goods & services, TTAB proceeding, or trademark professional. Each mode is optimized for its data type.

2

Enter your query

Type a name, serial number or registration number. Results include exact matches plus marks that sound or are spelled alike, each labeled with how it was found.

3

Filter and sort

Narrow results with 7 filter facets. Sort by relevance, filing date, or status. Click any facet count to drill in instantly.

4

Drill down or export

Click any result for full details, add marks to a portfolio, set up monitoring alerts, or export everything to XLSX for your records.

What Trademark Lookup does

Seven capabilities that replace hours of manual research.

5 search modes

Search by trademark, owner, goods & services description, TTAB proceeding, or trademark professional (attorney/firm). One tool replaces five separate workflows on USPTO.gov.

Sound-alike and look-alike matches

Every name search also finds marks that sound like yours (KOOL when you search COOL), are spelled like it, or share a word with it, and labels how each was found. A Match Method filter narrows the list.

7 filter facets

Status, Nice class, owner, match type, mark type, TTAB involvement, and date range. Go from 14 million records to exactly what you need.

Similarity scoring

Every result shows a quantified similarity score with method badge — not just keyword matches. See "Very High," "High," or "Medium" risk at a glance.

Save & monitor

Save search criteria and configure event types and frequency. Get alerts when new filings match your saved search — continuous monitoring without re-running queries.

Export to XLSX

Full paginated export of search results with all metadata. Integrate into your existing workflow tools, spreadsheets, and client reports.

TTAB & ITU badges

Live badges on every result card show TTAB proceeding involvement and Intent-to-Use status. Instant vulnerability assessment without clicking through.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Every name search runs several matching methods at once: exact text, sound-alike (a phonetic key, so a search for COOL also finds KOOL), spelling similarity, and shared words. Each result is labeled with how it was found, and the Match Method filter narrows the list to the matches you want, such as exact matches only. It is the same search on every plan, including the free one.

The USPTO trademark search system requires you to construct individual queries and manually review each set of results. GleanMark Trademark Lookup runs five search modes, three matching algorithms, and seven filter facets — all in a couple of seconds. What takes repeated manual query construction on USPTO.gov takes seconds here, with structured metadata and match-method filters on every result.

Yes. Save any search criteria and configure the alert types and frequency you want. When new filings match your saved search, you receive an alert. This lets you monitor a market segment, a competitor's portfolio, or a specific goods & services category continuously without re-running the search.

You can export full search results to XLSX with all metadata: mark name, serial number, registration number, status, owner, filing date, classes, similarity score, and goods & services descriptions. Exports are paginated — you can export the current page or all results.

Trademark Lookup (Lookup in the app) is a general-purpose trademark search tool with five modes, sound-alike and look-alike matching, and seven filters. It's designed for research, portfolio monitoring, and competitive analysis. Knockout Search is a specialized clearance screening tool that runs examiner-style search methods (phonetic, visual, component, coordinated class, foreign translation) against a single proposed mark, and scores every conflict for goods and services overlap to surface potential conflicts quickly. Use Lookup to find specific records and for broad research; use Knockout Search when evaluating a specific name for registration.

Type a brand name, word or phrase into GleanMark's free trademark search at gleanmark.com/trademark-search and press Search. It covers the full USPTO database, about 14 million records, and you can search by mark name, owner, goods and services, attorney, law firm or serial number. Five searches a day need no account; a free account makes them unlimited.

Yes. GleanMark's trademark search is free and covers every live and dead trademark in the USPTO database, including marks that sound or are spelled like the one you type. Five searches a day work without an account, and a free account removes the limit.

Search for the name, then review exact and similar matches. Open any result to see its status: "Registered" means the mark is claimed, and "Pending" means an application is in progress. Look at the goods and services each mark covers too, since a mark is protected for what it is used on, not for every product.

The USPTO retired TESS (the Trademark Electronic Search System) on November 30, 2023 and replaced it with USPTO Trademark Search at tmsearch.uspto.gov. GleanMark searches the same USPTO data, updated daily, and adds sound-alike and spelled-alike matching, owner and law-firm profiles, and filters.

You can search it through GleanMark: enter a trademark name, owner or serial number. GleanMark uses the official USPTO data, updated daily, and shows each mark's status, filing history and related marks.

Trademark classes (the Nice Classification) are 45 categories for goods and services: Classes 1-34 are goods, such as electronics, clothing and food, and Classes 35-45 are services, such as advertising, finance and legal services. An application names the classes its goods or services fall in. The class is a filing category, not the test for conflict: identical names can coexist when their goods are unrelated, and can conflict across classes when they are related.

The search itself returns results in seconds. Reviewing them properly, which means checking similar marks, comparing goods and services and reading prosecution histories, usually takes longer, depending on how common the name is.

No. Anyone can search trademarks for free with GleanMark or the USPTO's own tools. A trademark attorney adds a professional clearance opinion, interprets difficult results, advises on likelihood of confusion and handles the application. For a first name check, a self-service search is a good start.

A trademark search is a quick lookup for existing marks that match a name. A clearance search is a fuller review of the risk of using or registering it: similar marks, overlapping goods and services, common-law use and likelihood of confusion under the DuPont factors. GleanMark covers the first with free search and the second with knockout searches and clearance reports.

GleanMark covers U.S. trademarks filed with the USPTO, including Madrid Protocol registrations that designate the United States. For marks registered elsewhere, search that country's trademark office or WIPO's Global Brand Database.
